What Has Changed

Over 230 years ago, the inhabitants of this land rebelled against their government. Why? Well, the government was becoming increasingly tryanical, forcing taxes and legislation on the people while indulging in the pleasures of the world on the colonist's dime. They were seperated by a great expanse, the Atlantic ocean, and had lost touch with their citizens, living in an alternate reality in which they were smarter than the common people and thus, could treat them as they wished, not listening to them, but ruling over them as servants. The government had placed itself above God in many instances, and many colonists had actually left the mother land to avoid religous persucution at the hands of a corrupt King, and church. It was a power hungry government, elitists that felt they deserved special treatment because of their status, exempting themselves from civil service and the law, and bent on invading every aspect of the common man for his own good. So, that was over 230 years ago, but what about the day we live in now? Well, we are currently living under a government that is becoming increasingly tyranical. They are passing legislation and taxes, such as Cap and Trade and Healthcare, that punish the common man with tax increases and invasions of privacy while exempting themselves from the laws (yes, they are exempt from the healthcare bill..if it is so great, why are they exempt?). While the citizens suffer, government members are living the life of luxury. The White House has a weekly party every Wednessday night (ironically on the day most reserve for church service) with live entertainment, an open bar, and $500 per plate meals. The Speaker of the House has spent over 2 million dollars of our money to keep her private jet stocked with liquor over the past year while the unemployment rate and foreclosure rate continue to rise. They consider themselves superior to the average citizen, and due to this elitism, they feel no need to listen to the electorate, because they know what is best. Many of our current government officials believe they are above, or have no need for God. This was exemplified when Obama became the first president in our history not to attend church the Sunday after his election...he went to the gym instead to worship his God, himself. So really, what has changed? The only difference I can see is that the citizens of 1776 America joined together and took their lives back from the tyranical government that was oppressing them. They used a backbone of steel, and trust in the almighty God to beat what seemed to be insurmountable odds. What does the next chapter of modern day America hold? Will the government become more and more overbearing, taking away the very Freedoms our ancestors bled and died to secure, or will we also stand up, placing God between us and our enemy, and take back this country?
